Dental veneers (sometimes called porcelain veneers or dental porcelain laminates) are a modern method of dental micro-prosthetics during which the teeth are covered with wafer-thin shells made from either porcelain or from resin composite materials.
Veneers can solve such aesthetic and orthodontic problems as chipped teeth or their uneven surface, stains from tetracycline or other drugs, excessive fluoride or other causes; or the presence of large resin fillings that have discolored the teeth. Are successful in dealing with teeth that are misaligned, uneven, or irregularly shaped (for example, have craters or bulges in them), as well as teeth with gaps between them (to close the space between these teeth).
Veneer manufacturing technology
Two methods are currently being used to manufacture dental veneers – direct and indirect techniques (in our clinic we use both methods). The direct method involves the direct application of composite resin on the tooth surface without laboratory fabrication. In most cases, the direct technique does not require the temporization of the dentition and may be completed in a single dental visit. The indirect method utilizes a dental laboratory for the manufacturing of the veneers and only after some time they are installed.
Veneers to teeth may be orthopedic or therapeutic. The former are made by pre-Impression, which allows for their full adjustment. Therapeutic pads can be mounted on the front of the teeth as a filling. They do not cause much harm to tooth enamel and are made of a reflective material.
Advantages of veneers
They are stain resistant and retain their original color. They have long service life; there is a possibility of shade selection which will perfectly fit the native color of the natural teeth.
- veneer installation is used to give the teeth a perfect shape and dazzling whiteness, to restore even severely damaged teeth, correct many aesthetic defects and eliminate the discomfort associated with bad teeth. As a result the teeth of the patient look absolutely natural.
- veneer resists the classic stains of coffee, tea, smoking and soft drinks very well and can look as good as the day they were put in for years to come.
- Installed veneers prevent the formation of plaque and calculus
